XGS-PON technology with Novalink
By integrating our Helix OLT pluggables into our outdoor aggregation devices, they become port-based Remote Optical Line Terminals (OLT). This allows service providers to deploy and scale
In this paper, engineer Vladimir Grozdanovic explains the different types of equipment and how they are installed to create an operating PON. An OLT (Optical Line Terminal) is the main device in a PON system that connects ONUs through the ODN segment, enabling services to subscribers.
The 3800 10G PON uONU is a complete ONU solution contained in a small form-factor pluggable device. This micro ONU (uONU) can operate in Ethernet switches with standard SFP/SFP+ interfaces and other Ethernet-enabled devices, such as home gateways, enterprise/campus switches, WiFi access points (APs), and 4G/5G base stations.
The number of PON ports or service boards in the chassis depends on the chassis size. Thus, there are OLT variants with integrated PON ports (pizza and outdoor OLT), small chassis with 2 slots, medium ones with 7 or 8 slots, and large ones with 15 or 17 slots for service boards.
As 5G requires a significant increase in bandwidth and the ability to handle high data rates, PON offers a robust solution for meeting these demands. Where is PON Used in 5G Deployments?
